Other Sources of Help

The Department of Human Services (DHS) is run by the State with help from the Federal government. If you have an eviction or utility shutoff notice, take it to the nearest DHS office immediately, if you have not already done so. They will review your situation and issue a Decision Letter. This will state whether they can help you or not. If not, please show this letter to the other agencies, listed below, which require it. (* Note:  get to DHS before 11:00 to try to talk to a worker that day)

The Community Action Center (MCCSA) is a Macomb Agency dedicated to helping families and individuals with limited incomes. If you qualify, they may help with rent, mortgage and/or utilities, food, etc. Part of the documentation they need are your eviction or shutoff notice, or information on whatever you need, and your DHS Decision Letter referred to in #1 above.

The Good Shepherd Coalition is a group of churches and agencies, (i.e. the Salvation Army). To see them, you may need a reference from the Community Action Center (MCCSA). The Decision Letter referred to in #1 above may be required.

The United Way:  Call (211) or (800) 552-1183. This organization tries to help with food, rent, senior services, etc. They are available by phone 24 hrs, 7 days a week. They can also refer you to groups in our area that have food pantries.

 

The Clinton Township Library – (586) 226-5020 If you do not have access to a computer, this library has some that you can use for internet job searches, etc. It is located at Canal and Romeo Plank Road.

 

MCREST:  This is a coalition of Churches that offers sleeping arrangements for homeless people for a thirty (30) day period. Each Church offers the participants a safe place to sleep for one week. For any week, there are usually 40 to 60 people. They are fed an evening meal and breakfast. A bagged lunch may also be provided. Each Church has its own resources and offers whatever extra help they can. The MCREST organization also offers extra help such as some medical, and some counseling.
