Lectors / Commentators

Lectors and Commentators are ordinary people who have the extraordinary privilege to proclaim the Word of God.

The Lector proclaims the first and second readings at mass.  The Commentator provides the introduction at the start of mass, leads the Prayers of the Faithful, and provides any concluding announcements.   Every volunteer in this ministry receives a workbook that gives a commentary on the readings.

Lectors and Commentators are scheduled in advance and you may serve from 1 – 3 times per month, depending on your mass preference and your stated availability.  For holy days, we request volunteers on a case-by-case basis.  Training is provided and you are able to designate your preferred mass time(s) for the schedule.  The expectations are that you will prepare for your assignment before arriving at mass, using the Lector Workbook, and that you will arrive 15-20 minutes before the start of mass.
